Mom was kind enough to take the night shift last night, so I had about five hours, miraculous. Poor Gordie, had two screaming jags last night before bed, would almost be tempted to call it colic but it doesn’t follow the rule of three. His screams go right through his papi and grandma, I find them muted which is apparently a good thing as I will be less likely to lose my mind. It does bother me though not being able to help him at those times, just trying to remember that it is part of the process, you go through the checklist and then wait and rock and shhh( which supposedly sounds like in the womb, it amazes me that we instinctively know what to do with babies in some cases, I wonder if shhh is universal ).

how nice of your mom – five hours in those early days DOES feel miraculous! and pretty soon it’ll get better!
poor little man – Simone was a gassy one and has reflux so we had our share of screaming jags…breaks your heart. Have you heard of the “happiest baby on the block”? I got it on DVD from the library – the 5 S’s were a savior around here
Sucking
Swaddling
Swing (or bounce/giggle)
Side-stomach (hold them on their side but a bit forward
and the one you’ve figured out on your own, the SHHHH sound
